CHECKPOINT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

There are 9 checkpoints and 4 half checkpoints along the race route. The checkpoints need 15 to 20 volunteers while the half checkpoints need around 6 volunteers. There is a wide range of positions in each.

The checkpoint manager will communicate with the volunteers in their checkpoint to arrange a meeting time and location prior to the relay.

​

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1 x Checkpoint Manager for each checkpoint - Please contact us if you are interested in this position.

  • 12 x 20 other volunteers for each checkpoint

LOCATION: Various location along the relay route

TIME: The opening times of the checkpoints vary. The earlier checkpoints are open over night so they are usually set up the evening before then volunteers take a break or enjoy some supper before the checkpoint opens. The daytime checkpoints are usually setup half an hour to an hour before the opening time.

Checkpoint Manager

  • Assists in finding volunteers for the checkpoint

  • Communicate with the volunteers about location and time

  • Assigns roles to the various volunteers

  • Manages the set up of the checkpoint

  • Manages the checkpoint when it's open

  • Manages the tear down of the checkpoint

  • Liaising with first aid and radio operators

Timing

  • Assisting with ensuring that a time is recorded for all the participants passing through the checkpoint

  • Recording bib numbers

Participant and Support Crew Marshal

  • Answering participants questions

  • Directing participants and support crew 

​

Parking

  • Directing support vehicles to parking areas

  • Enforcing no parking areas

​

YARA Radio Operator

  • The radios at each checkpoint are operated by Yukon Amateur Radio Association members

First Aid

  • First Aid for the relay is donated by the Yukon Ski Patrol

  • If you are interested in being a first aider for the relay please contact Ski Patrol

  • Assists in finding volunteers for the checkpoint

  • Manages the set up and tear down of the checkpoint

  • Manages the checkpoint when it's open
