ON THE ROAD
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
The relay attracts around 200 teams and 1800 runners so there's a lot of activity on the South Klondike Highway and Alaska Highway. We have a number of roles for people to be out on the road ensuring the smooth running of the race and the safety of the paticipants
Sweep

Two sweeps travel together in a vehicle after the last runner to ensure that all participants complete the race safely

Visit each checkpoint after the last runner and let the checkpoint manager know they can tear down

Upload the timing data from the timing device at each checkpoint to the cloud

Pick up the road signs at each checkpoint

Other duties can include assisting injured participants, monitoring bear activity, communicating with Race Director.
Requirement - 4 to 6 sweeps to take shifts covering the route from Skagway to Whitehorse. One pair of sweeps will work overnight

Marshal

Two marshals travel together in a vehicle ahead of the front runner

Check each checkpoint to ensure that it they are set up correctly

Confirm each checkpoint knows how to operte the timing system

Communicate with the Race Director to let them know if there are any issues

Other duties can include assisting injured participants, monitoring bear activity, moving equipment to a new location.
Requirement - 4 to 6 marshals to take shifts covering the route from Skagway to Whitehorse. One pair of marshals will work overnight

Safety

Two safety officers would travel together in a vehicle or on two motorbikes.

They would move back and forth through the race to ensure the safety of participants, volunteers, spectators and other road users.

Other duties can include assisting injured participants, monitoring bear activity, communicating with Race Director.
Requirement - 4 or more safety officers to take shifts covering the route from Skagway to Whitehorse. The main area of concern is the Alaska Highway

Traffic Control Person
​The participants cross the South Klondike Highway in Carcross and the Alaska Highway at Miles Canyon Road. Both these crossings need 2 trained Traffic Control People at all times during the race.

Note this position requires you to be a trained TCP. If you are interested in being trained please contact us.
Requirement - 8 trained Traffic Control People, 4 for each locaion.
